While it would be great if you could justify taking a beach towel on a hiking trip, they are just too heavy and bulky. Instead, you want something that is thin and light, as absorbant as possible, and just big enough to get you dried off. There are several products on the market that have these qualities and can be found at nicer camping stores and online. Mine is a Sea to Summit Tek Towel, which has been a good product.
