One Wood Badge candidate's opinions on what equipment to take camping (or not)

LOWER RIGHT POCKET

On my pack, the lower right pocket is one of the smaller ones, so there is only room for a few items:

Pack Cover

This item is only important if you think there's a chance you'll be hiking on the rain. On a week-long 50 mile hike, you sometimes do not have the option of taking a day off it rains. There will be other times when you're already out hiking, and it starts raining. Either way, this item can be slipped over your pack to help keep it dry, leaving the shoulder and hip straps exposed so that you can still wear it. The version shown here is a Sea to Summit brand pack cover. If I had to replace my existing pack over, I would probably buy this brand. Do note that pack covers come in different sizes, so make sure to buy one that fits your pack.

Needless to say, you'll want to make sure you take some of this with you. Equally as important, keep it in a ziplock bag. It won't do you much good if it gets all wet.
